Magazonday Manicure!

nails

Hi there everyone...Happy Magazonday! I searched high and low for inspiration in all kinds of magazines and I think I found it. I dont know about y'all but I've gotten to the point where I feel a little under dressed without my fingernails painted. I've pretty much always stuck to the classic colors like red, black, violet...I've never really ventured out there. I usually leave all the fancy nail work to Katy but lately I've wanted to mix it up. In every magazine I looked at they had this "half moon" manicure. It looked fairly easy so I decided to go for it. I picked out my colors and had my handy fine tip nail brush ready to go but I soon realized you need a STEADY hand. It took some patience but I finally got used to drawing on my nails. Overall I liked the look but next time I think I'll get really funky with the colors.

17 again!

Meet Emily, she is our little sister....she's pretty cool plus she had a really cute outfit on yesterday!
I figured i'd feature her outfit since i'm still kinda camera shy...
Whad'ya think....i taught her well right!

We love the Oscar's!

In honor of Oscar fashion we have compiled our top 4 favorites of the night. It was really hard to just choose 4 but we managed!
*pictures c/o People.com

We had an awesome spread for the oscars....
Chicken Ceaser Sandwich's, Parmesan frites,
Pickle frites, a trio of sauces (honey mustard, fry sauce, ranch)
Chocolate covered popcorn, homemade smores,
& the official punch of the Oscars (Silverscreen Punch)

It was great!

Till next year......

Hold the presses!!!

Something major is going on here at The Style Dossier. Like most ladies, oh & gents, we bury our heads in tons of magazines every month reading cover to cover & getting inspired by everything we see. So...we decided to actually put these magazines to use for our readers. Were taking magazines & mondays and combining them to make Magazonday! Clever eh? We'll be blogging every monday about things that we've seen in magazines, recreating outfits, makeup looks, reviewing products & even diy's. Were over the moon about it & we hope you are too. Stay tuned for all the magazonday madness!

Its gonna be awesome.

Ring in Spring!

I usually don't like looking at rings in stores since I have chubby fingers. Well...that's not entirely true, i love looking, just not trying on, one too many have gotten stuck. Most of the awesome ones fit only to my knuckle and then forget about it. But now that they have those rings with stretchy bands, you know for chubbier fingers, i'll be able to rock some rings this spring. Ha, I just rhymed thats how excited i am!

I'm sure not all of these rings would fit my fingers, but hey a girl can dream right?
I just thought these rings were too cute to not share with you guys!

Wickedly Olive!

So in the spirit of "Wicked" I decided to channel my inner Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and go with an olive green eye. I'm sure my sisters would say Elphaba isn't really a stretch for me but the only thing i have to say to them is "I'll get you Libby and Katy and your little blog too." Ahahahah!!! Yep im more of a Glinda. Definatly a Glinda!
Enjoy folks!

So I used my Stila color wheel eye shadow pallette that i so kindly got for Christmas to make this sultry, sexy, WICKED eye!

1. Apply the lightest olive green and blend from your eye lid to your brow bone with a big fluffy brush
2. Next take your fluffy brush and apply the olive green from your lash line to your crease, wrap around under your eye as well.
3. Wet your blending brush and apply the darkest olive on the outside corner of  your eye and all the way into your crease for contouring.
4. Make sure to add the light olive to the inner corner of your eye for a pop.
5. Apply your eye liner and curl and your eye lashes. Then add your favorite mascara.

VOILA! You are done, Good luck everyone :)

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Heaven

Hello all.......Happy Tutorial Tuesday. For my first tutorial I wanted to share something with everyone that I love to make and loooove to eat. Its super simple and I should warn you its very addicting. They are my favorite cookies in the world......my peanut butter chocolate cookie made by Giada De Laurentiis. Her recipe does call for some blackberry jam in the middle but I love the cookie just by itself. I love to bake these cookies because it perfumes the whole house with peanut butter. Now come on whats better than peanut butter and chocolate?

1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.

2. Gather up all your dry ingredients 1 cup all purpose flour, 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/8 teaspoon salt. Sift all the ingredients together in a medium bowl.

3. In a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment beat 1 stick (1/2 a cup of butter @ room temp)
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter @ room temp, 3/4 cup of sugar, and 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar. Scrape down the sides as needed and blend until smooth. Add 1 room temp egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and mix until blended. With the machine on low add all the sifted ingredients gradually until it's all incorporated.

4. Put 1/4 cup of sugar in a seperate bowl. Form the dough into about 1/4 cup size balls and roll the dough in the sugar until they are fully coated. Arrange the balls on the cookie sheets and bake for 11 to 14 minutes until the surface of the cookie has crackled. Cool for 5 minutes and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely about 15 minutes. Last but not least ENJOY.

These cookies truly are my all time favorite and I hope you all have as much fun making them as I do. Have a great day!

75th Birthday Bash!

This weekend our nana & papo hit a big milestone....their 75th birthday! If you're wondering who our nana & papo are well I'm proud to say they are our grandparents. I can honestly say that when my family gather's together we have a fantastic time & this party was no exception. We had great food, great music & of course great company. My sister's & I did all the decorations for the party as well so I'm going to be partial & say that the place looked amazing too! The one thing that made the birthday party so special was seeing my nana & papo with their friends.....most of them have been friends for over 50 years. Thats right 50 years! We're so lucky to have been able to spend this birthday with them. The only thing we were unsure of was what to get them as a present. I mean you can imagine a 75 year old probably has lots of things, but we managed to find them something that we knew they would love. I'm passing the word along to ya'll as well cause I really loved this present. It was a picture book but not just any picture book it was filled with pictures of our entire family. The beauty with these books is you can put whatever pictures you want in it, & personalize it pretty much any way you want to. Our nana & papo loved it...i teared up a little when giving it to them because I loved how it came out. Over all the birthday party was a great success and we can't wait to plan their 80th birthday!

Cheap Beauty Treatments

Recently I've discovered some great homemade beauty tricks that I cannot wait to share with everybody. The best part is that it's all in your kitchen already & if it isn't it's really cheap!

The first treatment is a substitution for drum roll please.......biore strips! Yes I was that girl that would spend $8.00 every two weeks on a pack of strips but now I know I was wasting my money. You really only need two ingredients. Milk & unflavored gelatin that's it. It's one of the EASIEST home beauty treatments I've ever done (& rust me I've done tons) but the best part is it's super effective. I'm not kidding this bad boy cleaned up some hard to get blackheads.

First gather a concealer brush (one that you won't miss) a tbsp of milk & a tbsp of unflavored gelatin. Mix both in a cup. The paste will be chunky @ first, pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds and it will become thinner. Take your concealer brush & apply to your nose in the same shape of a biore strip. Wait till it dries about 15 minutes & peel off. It's that simple!

The second treatment I've been using about once a week has been an asprin mask. All you need is half a tsp of honey & about three uncoated asprin.

First take the three uncoated asprin & cover them with a tiny bit of water so that they dissolve. After they have dissolved you take your honey & mix it with your asprin paste.
Use your fingers to rub the mixture onto your face in a circular motion., avoiding your eye area. The grittiness from the asprin gently exfoliates your skin without being to harsh & it takes away any redness. The first time I used this mask I felt immediate results. It left my skin feeling smoother & the best part it was so easy!

I hope ya'll enjoy these easy & effective beauty treatments. Now if only I could find one that would take away thses dark circles permanently ;) Have a great monday!

Interview Woes...

I don't know about you guys, but i always feel more nervous about what i'll be wearing to an interview than the actual interview itself. {maybe that's why i'm still unemployed, hmmmm}. Anyways, i was called for an interview and the nice lady told me the attire was "business appropriate". Now i've never heard of this, yes business-casual or business attire, but business appropriate? I decided to wear this outfit, i felt like it was business in the jacket and the dress was appropriate since i'm a girl. Makes sense huh?

How do you think i did?

Oh, & if you know what "business appropriate" means....help a girl out!

Zinger!

Happy Valentines Day all! Ok so were a day late, but so what right? I mean valentines isn't even a "real" holiday. I mean why should there be a holiday that, oh no, here comes my single girl bitterness coming out, objecting to everything and anything pink and heart-filled. Forgive me?

So last night the sisters and I went to Houlihan's to sip on some haterade....no really that was the name of the drink... c'mon guys i'm not that bitter. It was delicious by the way! We ate some disco & pickle frites and forgot all about the so called LOVE day. Even though i didn't have a valentine, i really enjoyed myself.

If you had a valentine, i hope you had a wonderful night, i mean you do deserve it!
