Cherry Margarita

Some people might consider us hoarders, well mason jar hoarders at least. We have a TON of them, and all different sizes too. Sure we put them to good use. You know somehow sweet tea seems extra sweet when its served in a mason jar. Remember they are considered the wine glasses of the south! So why not give them some extra love? Our friend threw out the fabulous idea of having a Mason Jar Cocktail month. (thanks Kara) I think she may know us too well, but why couldn't we have thought of it ourselves? Anyhoo the whole month of August will be filled with delicious and refreshing Mason Jar Cocktails. We have plenty of cocktail recipes but if y'all have any that you'd LOVE to share, we'd LOVE to make them.

Dare We Say, Healthy Guacamole

Guacamole and Margarita's are pretty much our staple combo. We eat a LOT of guacamole and while avocados are good for you if you quite a few it's not as healthy. I discovered a healthier version, it's just the same but you use asparagus. Yup that's right it's the one surprise element to this guacamole. You can't even taste the difference. I had my sisters try it and they had no idea what was different. It's great to entertain with and I bet NO ONE will ever know your little healthy ingredient.
Healthy Guacamole:
2 medium avocados
10-12 asparagus stalks
diced tomato
1 tbsp of lime juice
salt and garlic powder to taste
*diced jalapeno is optional

Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit and scoop out the inside. Chop the ends of the asparagus and discard. Chop the remaining asparagus into smaller pieces. Throw it all in a blender and puree until smooth. Chop up the tomatoes, add them as well as the salt, lime juice and garlic powder. Serve immediately.

To find out more of our recipes head on over to SA Current Blogs every Tuesday, or you can also type in The Style Dossier  in their search button
Throughout August we'll have a Mason Jar Cocktails, come check it out!!

Rum Soaked Grilled Fruit Kabobs

Society tells us that men should be grilling and the ladies should be sitting by the pool with a mojito, right? We're pretty sure that's how it goes. Now, as much as we agree with the mojito part we're open to the 'men can only grill' thing. We are proof that ladies can grill too WHILE drinking a mojito (we're ladies of many talents) By no means are we saying men can't make these delicious kabobs. But ladies, if your having your girls over for a pool party by all means bust out your grilling tools and make these delicious kabobs! They are easy, delicious, healthy and the best part.... soaked in rum! We thought you might like that part! (we like to sneak alcohol in all things we do) Your welcome! But who doesn't like fruit right? And if you don't like GRILLED fruit then you need your taste buds checked. Grilling is summers past time so we are right on trend.
Make these happen you guys, and gals. Your taste buds are screaming for them!

Gin and Jam Cocktail

Lets be honest, where would our lives be without Snoop D-O-double-G? How would we know that gin and juice was such a great combination, and that we need to keep our mind on our money and our money on our minds? These are unforgettable lessons (Thank you Snoop Dogg) but we're about to blow that gin and juice off the streets! We call it, gin and JAM! Ok ok don't get discouraged. We know it might sound...awkward but believe us this drink is anything but awkward. Its a little on the sweeter side so if your a straight up whiskey drinker this might not be the drink to have on the daily but its definitely worth giving a try. We tried it with strawberry and apricot jam and they were both very tasty, but the great thing about making this drink is that you can try ANY jam you can think of. The possibilities are endless. Plus, their so pretty. The colors come out perfect if your trying to instagram (guilty). We were definitely surprised on how much we liked it, and we thought since we liked it so much then there must be others just as curious to know what gin and jam tasted like. We think its a winner! So, roll down the streets, smoke your indo, and sip on your gin and jam because gin and juice was so 1995.

Gin and Jam:
1 tablespoon jam (any jam will do)
2oz Gin
juice from half a lemon
1oz simple syrup
Shake all ingredients together in a chilled cocktail shaker. Strain into a rocks glass and garnish with mint leaves.

Peach Sangria

There's three things we know summer brings out, and that's hotties with beach bodies, hot summer nights, and alcohol alcohol alcohol!! I guess technically that's five things but who's counting? We know in Texas everyone's go to drink would be a margarita (obviously) we know for us a great margarita cant be beat, but recently  we've been testing out different sangrias and this one has gotten rave reviews from everyone. Its a peach sangria and its delicious! Our parents are pretty tough critics and this drink passed the test. They cant stop drinking it, which can't be good for them you know hangover wise. As we are headed on vacation this was one drink we HAD to have on our list. Its perfect for the beach but also classy enough if you wanna stay in and watch chick flicks. If your looking for something new this is definitely worth giving a try, trust us!

Strawberry Berry Shortcake Stars

Fourth of July is this week, your welcome for the reminder. As we all know this holiday brings out the American flag tanks and cut off shorts. Hundreds of people will be flocking to beaches and pools, rivers and lakes, well pretty much anywhere with a body of water. As in true American fashion we must all have the essential hot dogs, hamburgers, and beer on our menu, and if we could have it our way we would be blasting any song from John Mellencamp. That guy just screams 'American'. A menu can't be complete without a little sweet somethin' somethin' at the end of the meal. Are we right?! That's where we come in! We have created these Strawberry and berry Shortcake Stars just for you because, well, their delicious and also red white and blue (very original). These stars are light and cool perfect for this hot summer day/night. Fireworks will be going off while you enjoy this decedent dessert. Sounds like a perfect Fourth of July to me! Enjoy the holiday everyone!
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a medium bowl combine 2 cups sliced strawberries, 2 cups blueberries and 1/3 cup sugar. Set aside.
2. For shortcakes, in a large bowl combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 and 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt. Using a pastry blender or your fingers cut 1/3 cup butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. In a small bowl combine 1 egg, 1/2 cup whipping cream, 1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup sliced strawberries and 1/4 cup blueberries. Add this to the flour mixture. Using a fork gently stir mixture until moistened and dough comes together.
3. On a VERY floured surface knead dough by gently folding and pressing until it hold together. Pat dough out to about 3/4 inch thickness. Using a floured star, preferably a 2 inch star, cut out shortcakes. Reform scraps and use to form more stars. The dough will be pretty sticky so don't be afraid to use flour, and make sure to always flour your star between each cut.
4. Place shortcakes 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a baking sheet for 5 minutes. Serve with strawberry, blueberry mixture and plenty of whipped cream.

Summer Tunes!

Not only are we great at beauty remedies, mixing up delicious cocktails, and whipping up great eats but we also have a great ear for music! Some songs may be old and some may be brand new but all are songs that were loving for the month. Our music palette is pretty wide so Justin Bieber might creep in there once in a while (sorry about that) we like Canadians. But whether your super into indie rock, pop, rock or hip hop these playlists are gonna have something for everyone! These are the songs we'll be listening to pool side all summer! Enjoy everyone!
