Floating Braided Crown

The past couple of months I've had SEVERE "hair block" I just can't seem to think of any hairstyles good enough to put on the blog (sorry for the lack of tutorials) Thankfully Katy had a great idea for a hair post, talk about lifesaver!
For me braids are the BEST hair accessory hands down. This look is totally easy & totally cute! It takes about 5 minutes, yup that's right only 5 minutes. We did a holiday hair tutorial similar to this hairstyle. See, for us braids are perfect for all occasions....holiday, summer & everything in between.braided crown STEP 1.  Use a teasing comb & tease your crown. Now take two sections of hair right above your ears & braid them. Tie them off with a clear rubber band.
STEP 2.  Use your fingers & start to separate your braid a little bit. You want the braid to look fuller & more relaxed.
STEP 3. Take one braid & bring it around to the opposite side of your hair. Use a bobby pin & secure it to your head. Do the same exact thing with your other braid. Try your best to hide the bobby pins in your hair, this will give your braids that "floating look"

Simple Beachy Hair

rsz_looklikeabeachbabe
One little fact about me, during the summer I almost NEVER fix my hair. I know what you're thinking, but don't worry I still wash & brush my hair (although some people may disagree) I just love to go for that "beachy messy hair" When summer rolls around I pretty much keep my blow dryer 20 feet away. If I can go all summer with no heat on my hair I'm extremely happy. I just wash, spray in some beachy texturizing product, that I make myself btw & I'm off! It's just my little way of bringing the beach to me every single day!

DIY scalp treatment

rsz_scalplove
All this time I've been focusing so much on the ends of my hair that I never really thought of focusing on my scalp. The only thing I've ever done is use a little bit of baking soda mixed in with my shampoo to get rid of build up. Funny thing is every time I use this concoction my hair feels incredibly clean & soft. Its true what they say, good hair starts with your scalp! Here's just a few at home scalp treatments that'll lead you to great, soft, clean hair

Margarita's with a braid on the side

rsz_braidstedbun
Fiesta isn't all about food, margarita's & cascarones. Ok maybe it's all about margaritas!! But it's also about fashion & accessories for us. We want to be fashionable & COOL @ the same time (it tends to be in the upper 90's during Fiesta) So anytime I can pull my hair off my neck is a blessing. For those of you that live in TX 'm glad you can relate to us :) I usually just wear my hair curly for fiesta but this year I'm really into braids so yes this tutorial has a braid, I knew y'all wouldn't mind

STEP 1. Gather your hair into a twist on one side
STEP 2. Take your bobby pin & secure the twist down
STEP 3. Pull the remaining hair into a side ponytail
STEP 4. Braid the side ponytail
STEP 5. Grab one strand of hair from the end of the ponytail, pull that exact piece
STEP 6. As you pull that piece of hair from the ponytail, push the braid up @ the same time
STEP 7. Now that your bun is pushed up take your bobby pins & pin it into place
STEP 8. Since the bun is finally pinned into place add a flower right @ the ear

*I like to spray a little dry shampoo right @ the roots for a little extra hold & volume

Milk Maid Braids for shorter hair

milkmaidbraid Let's face it finding hairstyles for shorter hair is a little difficult. Now that katy recently cut her hair we're all ridin' the "girl's with short hair" train. Hey in this Tx heat a girl needs a major haircut! I miss a lot of styles I used to do with my longer hair. The one style I miss the most is the milk maid braids. Now I have to resort to a little imagination to come up with "shorter" hairstyles. This hairstyle is incredibly easy. All you need is bobby pins & some hairspray. So from now on just call me Olga!

STEP 1. Grab a section of hair from right above your ear. Don't worry about the rest of your hair you're going to leave it down anyways.
STEP 2. Start braiding that section of your hair. I like to start braiding right where my ear is.
STEP 3. Take that piece of hair that you just braided & bring it to the opposite side of your head.
STP 4. Once that braid is brought to the opposite side of your head secure it with bobby pins. Try to conceal the bobby pins as much as possible. Set with hairspray
*repeat these exact steps on the opposite side of your hair

Coconuts do your hair good

rsz_softtouchablehair
For the longest time I've heard that coconut oil does wonders but I never wanted to spend $10 on a jar. Boy was I mistaken! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff. Seriously I can't get enough of it. I use it on myself post shower, as eye makeup remover & on my hair as a deep conditioner. You can use it on your face but my face tends to get a little oily so I haven't taken that plunge yet. If I really love something I will pass the word along so guess what everybody, go out & get some coconut oil!!!

How to do a fishtail braid

You know what I love? That braids are still all the rage. Any kind of braid is popular. My favorite braid is the fishtail braid, I can finally say its my favorite because I FINALLY accomplished it. It took me a good few weeks to get it right. But since my hair is shorter I can't necessarily wear a fishtail as a ponytail. I recruited my little sister Emily for this hair tutorial, she has the Rapunzel hair. Instead I have to resort to mini fishtail braids in my hair. That's ok I love mini braids in hair they add just enough fun to any hairstyle. Don't ya think?
rsz_howtodoafishtailbraid
STEP 1. Start by separating hair into two sections
STEP 2. Take a back piece of hair from the right section
STEP 3. Bring it around the front of the right section
STEP 4. Join it with the left section
STEP 5. Take a back piece of hair from the left section of hair
STEP 6. Bring it around the front of the left section & join it with the right section of hair
STEP 7. Keep repeating STEPS 2-6 all the way down till you reach the end of your ponytail. As you cross each piece of hair make sure to pull the hair tightly so it doesn't come undone.
STEP 8. When you reach the end of the ponytail tie it off with a rubber band
rsz_tip
If it's easier tie your hair with a rubber band first than start your braid like Emily did with her hair. Also if you have shorter hair like mine use this technique for a mini fishtail braid

If y'all have any new braided looks don't forget to share them here. I love learning new ways to do my hair

a fun way to wear a headband

Every where I look everyone is wearing headbands. When did they become popular again? Really I don't care when they became fashionable again I just know I want to jump on that band wagon. Plus this "headband" look is so easy to pull off with EVERY hair length. Teasing your roots, pulling your hair back & slapping on a cute headband, who would pass up that hairstyle?
teaseit
Step 1. Take your teasing brush & give your roots a good 'ol tease (if you have dry shampoo spray your roots w/ that first then tease, the volume will last longer)
Step 2. Smooth over your roots just a little bit so it looks a little polished. Not to polished though, messy is still cute
Step 3. Take the bottom half of your hair & wrap into a loose bun
Step 4. Take your headband & place it on top of your head, make sure your volumized roots are peaking out from behind the headband

If this isn't the best way to wear the cutest headbands I don't know what is. Hmmm now where can I get a bright lime green headband?

Loop it up!

I'm not a big ponytail girl. But when I do wear a ponytail I love to wear it in a fun, totally different way. This ponytail was featured in a magazine & it looked so cool & interesting, needless to say I wanted to recreate it. It was one of those looks that I spent a LOT of time playing with my hair. Realistically though it's the easiest ponytail ever. When we were taking pictures for this look it literally took no time @ all. It's a cool looped ponytail that adds just enough pizazz. I hope y'all like this totally fun totally different ponytail!
getloopy_hair
STEP 1. Put your hair into a side ponytail
STEP 2. While your hair is still in the side ponytail separate your hair so that there is a hole in the middle, above the rubber band
STEP 3. Take the bottom half of the ponytail & flip it through the hole
STEP 4. Keep pulling your hair through the hole until it feels nice & secure

I always love finding new ways to do a ponytail. If y'all know of a fun new way pass it along, I'd love to recreate it!

How to curl your hair with a flat iron!

I can't tell you how many people ask me how I curl my hair. Well ladies here ya go! I love to curl my hair lots of different ways but this way is by far my favorite. It's so easy & it takes no time @ all. It may seem overwhelming @ first but trust me it's worth learning. When I curl my hair with a flat iron the curls last all day, without hairspray. Who knew a flat iron could be so useful

Simple twisted updo

Having shorter hair makes you feel like a brand new woman. I've learned to take inspiration from all sorts of things. Recently I was inspired by Kirsten Dunst. She sported this braided updo @ the sundance film festival. It was such a great hairstyle & I knew I wanted to recreate it. I wanted to mix it up a bit so instead of a french braid I did a twist. Lets face it braiding isn't for everyone! I did a twisted swisster once before & it got so much great feedback! This twisted updo is so simple & fun, it's a great look year round. Happy twisting!
rsz_twistedupdo
Step 1. make a deep side part
Step 2. take 2 sections of hair & criss cross one over the other
Step 3. once the hair is crossed add a little more hair to each piece & criss cross again
Step 4. keep repeating this step all the way down till you reach the end of your hair
Step. secure the twist with a rubber band. grab the rest of your hair & wrap into a loose bun (take out a few pieces of hair from the front twist to give a more textured look)

Add a little TEXTURE to your life

Ever since I got my haircut I've embraced my natural hair texture. A little wavy & sometimes frizzy, yup I'm one of those girls that SWEARS by frizz ease. Since my hair is shorter I've learned to be a little more playful with it. This is one look I normally wouldn't have worn with my longer hair (I was in a hair rut) But now fun Libby gets to come out!!
texturizeit
Step 1. Blow dry your hair about 80% dry. Don't blow dry it smooth leave it a little messy.
Step 2. Take a quarter size amount of gel & scrunch the ends your hair.
Step 3. Secure your hair with bobby pins right above your ear.
Step 4. Grab your curling iron & curl just your ends. Don't worry about making the curls nice & neat, I say the messier the better.
Step 5. Take your teasing brush & tease your curls. Make sure to make them nice & BIG!

I love this look it's a little 1920's & a whole lotta fun! It's great for when I need a cute hairstyle fast. How do you like our new "step by step" layout? Isn't Katy a graphics genius, thanks Katy!!!!

How to get Golden Globes Hair

Don't ya just love January. It's the beginning of award season! That pretty much means every Sunday my sisters and I will be glued to the t.v. Did y'all see the Golden Globes? I have to say Charlize Theron was my absolute favorite. Her headband was beautiful, where can I find one for myself? One thing that caught my eye was the hairstyle of the night (you know me, hair is my first love) Almost everyone was rockin' that relaxed, undone, almost beachy waves.

I recently discovered how to get this effortless look in
just 4 steps, plus I read that models swear by this so needless to say it's a guaranteed winner! It's one of those looks that's ready to go when you first wake up in the morning, ya I knew that would grab your attention!
globeshair
Step 1. Start with dry hair, add a little bit of mousse to your hair but don't saturate it. You want your hair just a little damp.
Step 2. Take your curling iron and wrap 1 inch sections of hair around the barrel for about 10 seconds.
Once you've curled all your hair hit the sack. Don't worry your hair will stay curly until the next morning.
Step 3. When you wake up take a spray bottle and fill it with a little bit of conditioner and water. Lightly spray all over your hair.
Step 4. Scrunch your hair with your fingers. This keeps your hair mouisturized & smelling  great without drying it out.
globeshair_done
Just a few easy steps to great relaxed, beachy, undone waves. I wrapped my hair a little tighter around the barrel just because my hair is a little shorter. Just remember the looser you wrap the hair around the barrel the looser the curl.

Holiday Hairstyle.....Modern Bouffant

Hi y'all. Only two more holiday hairstyles to go! This holiday hairstyle is my version of a modern bouffant. Most people call it just a plain bun, but I just like using the word "bouffant" This is a classic hairstyle that looks great with anything you wear.
holidayhair
You'll need:
root lifter
teasing comb
rubber band
bobby pins
hairspray

Step 1. Spray a little root lifter directly onto your roots. Take your teasing brush & backcomb the top section of hair.
Step 2. Gather your hair into a low ponytail, secure with a rubber band.
Step 3. Tease your entire ponytail with your teasing brush.
Step 4. Your ponytail should look big & a little messy like mine. I wanted it to look like a birds nest.
Step 5. Start to wrap your messy bouffant bun around your rubber band. The messier the bun the better it looks. Remember I was going for the birds nest look.
Step 6. Once your bun is just the way you'd like it to look secure it all around with your bobby pins. Spray your hair all over with hairspray.
Step 7. Done! Your messy modern bouffant is finished.
rsz_1holidaybun
I really liked the way this looked with a backless dress, I felt like it really helped my hair stand out. Don't forget your hair is one of your best accessories.

Stay tuned for our last holiday hairstyle, in video form :)
