Watermelon Rum Punch

Labor day is coming which is officially the end of summer, so why don't we have one last summer cocktail! This watermelon rum punch is so refreshing and delicious, you wont be able to have just one glass! 

Ingredients
3 cups watermelon puree (about half of a medium watermelon)
1/4 cup lime juice
3 tablespoons mint simple syrup (i used this recipe)
1/2 cup white rum

Directions
Start by cutting up the watermelon. Cut off the watermelon rind and remove any black seeds. Then cut the watermelon into big chunks and place in a bowl.

Once the watermelon is cut up, start to puree it. I used an immersion blender but you can also use a blender!

Strain your watermelon puree into a big pitcher, and add the lime juice. Then add the mint simple syrup to taste, 3 tbsp worked just fine for me! Lastly, add the rum! Give it a stir and a taste! Enjoy!

Roasted spicy lime chickpeas

I found this recipe for roasted chickpeas yesterday & without hesitation I made them! They are really good, they kind of remind me of corn nuts. I've heard chickpeas are healthy, and having a healthy snack that tastes good is always good in my book! Give em a try, I think you'll like em too!

How to make your lipstick last longer

During the summer I rarely wear makeup & I pretty much don't touch my hair. Bronzer, lip gloss & sea salt spray are my best friends all summer long. Now that fall is right around the corner, I'm actually busting out my hair dryer & my red lipstick, aaaah I love fall! With all those bold lips making a comeback, I have some quick tips to get your lipstick to stay longer. Taking just a couple extra minutes is all it takes!

 STEP 1.  Take some concealer & apply it to your lips
STEP 2. Take your lip liner, a nude color or a color as close to your lipstick as possible, line & also fill in your lips. This will give the lipstick something to hold on to
STEP 3. Apply your lipstick
STEP 4. Grab a tissue & blot to remove any excess lipstick
STEP 5. Reapply your lipstick, to build up the color
STEP 6. Take a fluffy brush & dust a little bit of translucent powder on your lips & you're done!!

Churro Time!

Don't ya just love Pinterest? It seriously has the BEST recipes. Just the other night we had a whole "pinterest meal" it was delicious by the way. I can't wait to use Pinterest during the holidays. We're just going to apologize to everyone who follows us on Pinterest ahead of time. During the holidays we're probably going to get a little pin happy. But then again be on the lookout for some fabulous pins comin' your way!

Pinterest is great for easy breezy recipes. This churro recipe is exactly that. You really just need puff pastry (my fav) some cinnamon, sugar & chocolate dipping sauce. These are so delicious! Plus Churro's always remind me of Fiesta time in San Antonio, 8 months in counting!!!!

Oxford obsession

I have been wanting a pair of oxfords for forever now! Summer's in Texas are way too hot to have your feet completely covered, so i am anxiously awaiting fall. I can just picture my oxfords with a pair of tights and a cute dress, or with jeans and a sweater! I scoured the interwebs to find some of my fav oxfords, so today, i introduce you to the shoes that will soon be on my feet!

Fall 2012 Makeup Trend: Flushed Cheeks

Just thinking about fall gets me extremely excited. We finally get to break out our boots, our blazers maybe a scarf or two, but most of all, I get sooooo excited for all the new beauty trends. This fall it's all about flushed cheeks! Dick Page, Michael Kors lead makeup artist said, "It's how you look if you've been skiing, or in a hot tub or having very good sex", if that doesn't make you want to get flushed, i don't know what will! It's a really easy look to achieve & I learned a quick technique that makes it THAT much easier.

*I used a lipstain from IMAN, but any lipstick or gloss will work!  

Strawberry Crostata

Remember in my last food post I told y'all I was in LOVE with pastry puff? Well my love just got a little deeper. I used it to make a strawberry crostata with homemade whipped cream, yummmmm!It's wonderful for summer. It's tart & sweet & the whipped cream adds the perfect bite. We usually can't keep strawberries in our fridge, we love 'em that much. I'm just gonna go ahead & add this to my strawberry recipe file. I should just label that file "Devoured in 5 Minutes"

I might just turn into a blueberry.....

During the summer I like to give my oven a break. I only turn it on for really important things. Like a delicious roasted chicken, coconut cupcakes or even a good pastry puff. In my opinion pastry puff is the most delicious thing ever! You can put anything on it & it tastes great. We like to use it to make one big calzone. I used the pastry puff to make this delicious blueberry dessert. This is one of the easiest desserts ever & its tastes great. It's light & it's perfect for summer. Anything with lemon zest always gets my attention. I can't tell you enough how delicious this dessert was. Seriously Katy & I could NOT stop eating it! I can't wait to use this recipe on repeat. I see strawberries or raspberries in it's future.

How to do kitty nail art

When i saw these kitty nails on pinterest I knew I had to try them. They are so easy, and so fun! If you love cats as much as me you'll for sure want to try these! Step 1. Paint two pointed lines on the sides of your nail, these will be the ears. 

Step 2. Fill in the gap between the ears with your polish, leaving the tip of the ears poking out. 

Step 3. Using a dotting tool, draw eyes and a nose for your kitty. 

Step 4. Then draw the nose & whiskers using the same tool, use a toothpick if you need to. Done!

Floating Braided Crown

The past couple of months I've had SEVERE "hair block" I just can't seem to think of any hairstyles good enough to put on the blog (sorry for the lack of tutorials) Thankfully Katy had a great idea for a hair post, talk about lifesaver!
For me braids are the BEST hair accessory hands down. This look is totally easy & totally cute! It takes about 5 minutes, yup that's right only 5 minutes. We did a holiday hair tutorial similar to this hairstyle. See, for us braids are perfect for all occasions....holiday, summer & everything in between. STEP 1.  Use a teasing comb & tease your crown. Now take two sections of hair right above your ears & braid them. Tie them off with a clear rubber band.
STEP 2.  Use your fingers & start to separate your braid a little bit. You want the braid to look fuller & more relaxed.
STEP 3. Take one braid & bring it around to the opposite side of your hair. Use a bobby pin & secure it to your head. Do the same exact thing with your other braid. Try your best to hide the bobby pins in your hair, this will give your braids that "floating look"

Who's the bartender now?

Ok so we all know that Katy makes some AMAZING drinks, and she's a pretty damn good mixologist but I've got a surprise for you! I have a pretty tasty drink up my sleeve too. It's called a Michelada & its perfect for those hot summer days. It's sour, spicy & savory and tastes almost like a bloody mary. So it's the best brunch drink!! I had heard how great this beer cocktail was from a friend & WOW were they right! Why hadn't I been drinking this before?
