Strawberry Rainforest

Happy Monday friends! Boy am i glad your here today.....i have a super delicious recipe for you! I was reading through the sunday paper and came across a smoothie recipe i was dying to try.  

This smoothie is called Strawberry Rainforest Smoothie, it's made by a young entrepreneur here in San Antonio. He makes nothing but lemonade and smoothies, but delicious gourmet lemonade and smoothies! If your in San Antonio you should check him out, or even if your not! 

This smoothie does not disappoint, its so refreshing for summertime......or really anytime!

Strawberry Rainforest Smoothie 

2 ounces orange juice

4 ounces strawberries

3 ounces pineapple

5 ounces bananas

2 ounces agave nectar

Combine orange juice, strawberries, pineapple, bananas and agave nectar in a blender. Blend until smooth, about 25 to 30 seconds.

* I added a little ice for a nice cold treat!

I love smoothies, there's just something about sucking up fruit through a straw that makes me so happy!

How to keep SUMMER going all year long.....

Happy Magazonday!! How many of you out there have wanted SUMMER to never end? #raiseshand me toooo....but I wish I could spend it somewhwere other than this TX heat. SUMMER jsut brings you those "happy" chemicals that you don't want to go away. So when I found this article in Redbook that gave me tips on "how to keep that SUMMER feeling all year long" I bit the bait. And realistically its not hard @ all. Just follow these few steps (which you're probably doing already) and you'll enjoy that SUMMER feeling alllll year long!

I'm pretty excited about making my SUMMER last how about y'all?

DIY: Rope Headband

Hello Lovely readers!!! Today is Magazonday and i have a great one for ya! A rope headband is the mission this monday and this is so easy to make. The hardest part is tying the knot, and even that isn't hard.

Here's what you'll need:

Now to tie the knot here's what you'll do:

I used 6 strands of rope all the same length, you can use less or more...whatever your little heart desires.

Split the amount of rope your using in half and make two loops, I did two loops of 3 strands. Name them A & B, this will make it easier.

Take loop B and put it under A, it'll now look like an oval, then take the ends of loop A and feed them through loop B, and your done!

Pull tight and the knot will become smaller.

Then take the ends of the rope and hot glue them around the rubberband.

DONE! Told you it was easy!

Gettin Ripped!

You might be a lot more craftier than me, and if you are I envy you, but for some reason the crafty DIY gene passed me up, how rude! I guess no one could anticipate that one day I would be writing a blog with my crafty DIY inherited sisters.  So, I wont be making a necklace or a beach bag. I'm doing something better...A SHIRT! Beat that Libby and Katy! Alriiight so I'm not ACTUALLY making a shirt, c'mon who do you think I am, but I am cutting one up.

This is way more fun and theres no sewing machine or hot glue gun involved. I'm a simple girl so this was something I knew I could do. All you need to do is cut and pin. If this seems daunting don't worry I was having anxiety over what shirt to use and where should I make the cuts and how big should they be. Blah blah blah. Forget all that because seriously you cant mess this up (I don't think)

You just need to find a shirt, purchesed or one that you dont mind cutting up. Lay it on a flat surface and cut away (obviously) When you have all your slits made just pin up a few of them in random places. I wont make this seem any harder than it is. Really ladies thats all you need to do. It looks so rocker girl and I love it!

Just DIY it!

 

I saw this necklace in Teen Vogue a while back and i was hooked, i loved it. Then I saw this Proenza Schouler rope necklace, and knew i wanted to make something similar, so i did!

Now i'm gonna show you how...

You'll need to use about 15 ft of Poly rope for a necklace. It seems like a lot but, we'll be doing Macrame, so when you knot, the rope gets shorter and shorter. You can do a half knot, this one is swirly, or you can do a whole knot, it's more boxy. They both start the same way.                    

Following the instructions below, start knotting your rope.

Half-Knot- continue knotting on the left side if you start on the left side or vice versa.

Whole-Knot- continue knotting, only you will switch from one side to the other.

Remember....

When you cut the rope to the length you want your gonna need to burn the ends so the rope doesn't fray. Just take a lighter and light the end of the rope, it'll burn out pretty quick, just make sure the ends are sealed.

 After you knot your rope, you'll need to glue the ends together. Glue all 3 ends together with the hot glue, then you'll wanna make a loop out of the glued ends. Glue the loop shut. This will be for the chain to hold the necklace together. Do this to both sides.

Now just take your chain and attach it to the two loops you made on your rope.

And your done! 

I made 2, a long one and a short one, i love them so much, i think they came out great! They are definitely great for summer!

Big Is In....

I'm a big believer in what goes around comes around. Almost all the clothes, hair and accessories I like my mom says "that was popular when I was younger." Well guess what mom big retro 60's hair is back and just in time for summer. I'm pretty excited because being from TX I do like my big hair! So get out those teasing combs and hot rollers girls cause BIG hair is back in a BIG way.







Getting these looks is very easy all you need is a teasing comb, hairspray, rubber bands and a scarf. Embrace that voluminous hair....go get 'em girls!

* to get these two looks in a more modern way all I did was tease the crown of my hair and pull into a pony tail or wrap a scarf around my head.....its that simple

 This monday i was inspired by Teen Vogue magazine. In this particular issue they had an editorial called "RUNWAY: OUR WAY". They take a particular trend & show how the Runway styled it and then they style it themselves. Well this look, i'm styling!

This look is a take on the trend: Piled on Prints...up there (at the top of the post) is how the RUNWAY and Teen Vogue styled it & here's how I styled it.....

I love, love, love stripes, they are such a basic and can be paired with almost anything. I paired it with this tribal looking print, I think they really tie in well together. Finally i extended the print all the way down to the feet. I love these polka-dot slingbacks sooo much, plus they are not too loud so they add just the right little touch!

Who knew piling on prints could be so much fun!

Happy magazonday y'all! This monday ia all about mascara's, luckily I needed a new mascara. I read this article testing out new mascara's so I thought I'd give it a whirl. You know me I love a good bargain so to the drugstore I go. The Covergirl Lashblast seemed to be calling my name. When I buy mascara's I tend to look for volumizing or lengthening. So perfect choice! The price was great and the mascara itself waas a great find! I loved the thin wand, it helped me to coat all my lashes. It didnt weigh my lashes down or make them clump together. The extra length it gave me lasted all day and trust me I had this baby on for 10 hours.aI just wished it added a little more volume to my lashes but overall I give this mascara two thumbs up. It only cost me about $7.00 and from the minute I put it on I felt like I got my money's worth. I know what you're thinking I didnt really spend a lot of money but hey this girl's got a budget.

Magazonday with a touch of floral!

Happy Magazonday Everyone! I was flipping through this months Glamour and saw all those adorable floral sandals, and it gave me this idea...(que the light bulb) why

not make your own removable flower to put on your sandals! If your thinking I'm a genius right now you are exactly right and I love you! So simple and so chic. Perfect for Spring!

1.) Just get any synthetic flower, mine is from Walmart, some god ol' trusty clips, and you'll also need a hot glue gun, which I forgot to put in this picture but hey you got the idea.

2.) Cut off the stem of the flower and put hot glue on the top of the clip.

3.) Simply hold the clip to the back of the flower, and let it dry (repeat with a second flower)

4.) Clip on any pair of sandals your gonna rock that day and voila a perfect pair of floral sandals

TA-DAH!

 

Green Thumb!

I'm very excited about this post, mostly because it involves nails, bright colors and creativity! When I saw this editorial in Teen Vogue (it was about nails) i was ecstatic. See, i used to bite my nails A LOT. Then one day i just stopped, i'm not sure how it happened or why i did but i haven't been happier since. Now i love to experiment with my nails....the brighter and crazier the better!

If you look closely the nails featured are floral nails, they may look complicated but never to worry they are very easy. I used a detailing/dotting tool i have, it's really great for precision and making perfect dots. If your at all into nail art i recommend getting it, it works wonders.

Painting this nail is best if you start with a blank canvas and by blank i mean white, then just layer all your polishes...

Here are the steps to creating the nail:

1st step- use 2 or 3 colors on top of the white base (i did some geometric shapes, and covered the tip of the nail in one color)

2nd step- start making your center of the flowers, a simple dot will do

3rd step- now it's time for the petals, using a steady hand paint on the petals (i just did little lines that got bigger toward the end)

4th step- fill in any big white areas you have with a color of your choice (i made stems for my flowers)

IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU LET EVERY LAYER DRY BEFORE YOU PAINT THE NEXT LAYER

Magazonday Manicure!

Hi there everyone...Happy Magazonday! I searched high and low for inspiration in all kinds of magazines and I think I found it. I dont know about y'all but I've gotten to the point where I feel a little under dressed without my fingernails painted. I've pretty much always stuck to the classic colors like red, black, violet...I've never really ventured out there. I usually leave all the fancy nail work to Katy but lately I've wanted to mix it up. In every magazine I looked at they had this "half moon" manicure. It looked fairly easy so I decided to go for it. I picked out my colors and had my handy fine tip nail brush ready to go but I soon realized you need a STEADY hand. It took some patience but I finally got used to drawing on my nails. Overall I liked the look but next time I think I'll get really funky with the colors.
