Hot Doggin' Around....

summerseries2

When Katy and I saw the recent cover of  Food Network Magazine we knew that would be a perfect post for our Summer Series. Have you seen it lately? It has some great hot dog recipe's....in fact we HAD to duplicate some of them. They have a whole Hot Dog Calendar full of different toppings that will guarantee "you'll never eat a naked hot dog again" We love the sound of that!! There were so many toppings to choose from but we settled on a few. We love bacon, pineapple and sauerkraut and these recipes had them all. Even a few we'd never in a million years thought we'd try. But isn't that the best part.....trying something new even if it is on a hot dog. Have fun choosing your favorite new hot dog!

100 degrees and sunny

Shirt: Old Navy / Skirt: Bitten by SJP / Heels, Bracelets, Hat: Forever21

Texas and I have a love hate relationship. Today i hate Texas. It is 100 degrees and is gonna be for another 9 days. As we were taking these pictures my feet were literally being burned. How am i gonna last another 3 months in this heat?

The skirt i'm wearing was once bermuda shorts, i hadn't worn them in forever, so i cut em' up and made a skirt. I haven't hemmed it yet so excuse my raw edges. I feel like i can style em' better as a skirt, and so far i was right. I styled this look in under 5 mins, and i'm really glad i liked it! Oh, and how do you like my new hat....this baby was $6 at Forever21, ain't it cute?

Way to go AVOCADO!

avocadooilhoney

I don't know about y'all but during the summer my hair gets really dry, I've recently learned of a new homemade deep conditioner that only takes 3 ingredients. Most of it you might have in your own kitchen. Just gather 1 avocado, 1 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp honey. Mash the avocado in a bowl with a fork then add the olive oil and honey, stir together and voila a very moisturizing deep conditioner. It's that simple! I like to put it on my dry hair, really focusing on my ends and leave it one for 15 to 20 minutes. Then just jump in the shower and wash it out. When you get out of the shower your hair will feel soft and silky. I couldn't stop running my fingers through my hair afterwards. I would highly recommend this conditioner to anyone especially during the summer when our hair is exposed to all the heat and chlorine. This deep conditioner will definitely help restore moisture. The best part is if you use this conditioner once a week your hair will only keep getting better. Here's to beautiful summer hair!

Farewell friend....

Oprah has been in our lives since we were just little girls. Everyday we'd come home from school and at 4:00 on channel 12 there she'd be. We have learned so much over the years from the Oprah Winfrey Show. She is the only thing that has been constant from our younger years to teenage years all the way to now. Oprah has opened our eyes to so many things. She has been the greatest teacher we have ever known. The show she had about Puppy Mills, crushed our hearts while the show about Texting and Driving opened our eyes. The countless shows she's had about kindness have inspired us to do good. Every show Oprah has had has helped shape us into the women we are today. She has taught us about love, forgiveness, kindness and so many other things. Even though she is technically going to OWN, she will no longer be greeting us at 4:00 in our living room. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for Oprah, and how much we will truly miss her company in the afternoon.
The TOP 10 things we learned from Oprah
1. Don't TEXT and DRIVE...EVER!
2. The right bra can change your life
3. Puppy Mills are real & horrible. Don't buy from a pet shop, adoption is best!
4. Look out for that "AHA" moment, and listen to it
5. Be comfortable in your own body, your weight will always fluctuate so love yourself!
6. Be Kind
7. Pay it forward
8. Do good just to do it, expect nothing in return
9. Follow your passion and you'll never work a day in your life!
10. Be aware of the world around you, and always lend a helping hand!

Texan girl's know best....

skinnygirl

During the summer our go to drink is a margarita....ok ok all year round that's our drink of choice. So it's pretty safe to say we've tried our fair share of margie's, we even consider ourselves "official" margarita taste tester's. And yes some of the BEST margarita's come from San Antonio. But unfortunately there was one margarita we just didn't care for. The Skinny Girl Margarita by Bethenny Frankel. Bethenny is one of our favorite reality stars, man that girl is funny as heck. But her version of a margarita just didn't do well with our taste buds. It seems like a fresh take on the margarita and most of you probably really enjoy it. It's a healthier take on a margie.....unfortunately it missed the mark with us. If you're looking for a guilt free margarita we say go for it......but honestly our margie's are the one thing we don't skimp out on.

Easy Peasy LEMON Squeezy

webonday

Happy Magazonday! Well this ones a Webazonday! I found this body scrub on Lauren Conrad's website. It is sooo easy and smells so summery and fresh. Its a great way to exfoliate your skin and bring that dull skin back to life for the hot summer days. Its also great to use before you use any self tanners or go tanning (please no tanning beds). Exfoliating your skin is key before any tanning activities. The scrub is the easiest thing ever, and who doesn't wanna smell like a lemon? Anyone? Hmm....

Ingredients:
5 tablespoons sea salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 lemon

lemon,salt,oil

Mix the Olive Oil and Salt together, makes sure that the olive oil coats ALL the salt. This is important so that the lemon wont dissolve the salt.
Once the salt is coated squeeze half a lemon into the salt and olive oil mixture
Mix all the ingredients together.

**This makes enough for one time use but if you want to use it over and over just double up the recipe and store in a cool place.

Moon-a-rita anyone?

Since beer week was this week in good ol' SA, i thought i'd bring y'all a recipe for one of our favorite beer drinks! We go to a place called Hofbrau here in SA a lot, they are famous for their dos-a rita's, they are so yummy!
In case you don't know, a dos-a rita is a frozen margarita with a Dos-Equis beer in it, the beer slowly pours out into your margarita, and your left with a really good drink!

They have all sorts of variations, but one that i think is perfect for summer is the moon-a-rita. It's a mango margarita with a Blue Moon beer.
moonarita1
Here's what you'll need
Mango margarita mix (i used master of mixes)
Tequila
Blue Moon beer (i used the summer honey wheat)
1 Lime

*you could use fresh mango's if you like, i suggest freezing them so you get a more slushy consistency

If you use the Mango margarita mix, just follow the instructions on the bottle, if your making a fresh mango margarita follow this recipe
1oz Tequila
1/2oz triple sec
1/2oz sweet & sour mix
1/2 cup of fresh frozen mangos
blend with ice

Make your mango margarita, and pour it into a big glass (i'm using a 20 oz goblet) you can use any glass you like just make sure it's big and deep enough for your beer to be placed in.

*they sell most of the beers, even Blue Moon, in cans now so that can save some space in your glass

This part is IMPORTANT, no matter what kind of glass your using, only fill it half way with the mango margarita, i poured too much margarita & when i inserted the beer, i got major spillage
moonarita3
Once you fill your glass with the mango margarita, insert your beer. This part is easy and fun, don't worry there is no wrong way to do this, just flip that baby over and put it in your margarita.
moonarita2
Now garnish with a lime, and ENJOY!

You can also do a regular lime margarita with DosXX....that ones really good too!

I hope this gets you through these long hot summer days ahead...

11 lovely things

dossierdigs_may
Sea Salt spray- Summer is all about natural hair and what better way to get that natural look then sea salt spray. I made my own spray, it's very simple. Now I just use it whenever I want that "summery" look.

Garnier Pure Clean Line- I'm in love with the Garnier Fructis Pure Clean line. It makes my hair smell great and it doesn't weigh it down. It gives the best of both worlds!

80's Pandora station- I listen to Pandora all the time but lately I've been obsessed with the 80's station. Since I'm an 80's baby you can see why I love it. I can't get enough of Eddie Money, Cyndi Lauper and Vanilla Ice.

OPI Black Shatter polish- I love this polish, it is so fun to watch as it cracks up, plus it turns any manicure into something spectacular!

Happy Endings- Have you checked out this show? It is our new favorite, the show is so funny, plus it is in a great time slot. Wednesday is definitely the funniest night on television!

Nicki Minaj Pink Friday album- Nicki Minaj brings out my rapper girl side, I love her new album especially Super Bass! I'm determined to learn all the words and drive in a convertible with the top down to the beach! Who's with me??

Loreal infallible lip color- So this is an oldie but a goodie! This is the Beyonce color and I mean who wouldn't want a lip color that Beyonce designed! I fell back in love with this vibrant red, it looks good on everyone and I've been wanting to wear it everyday! Greatest thing about it is, it stays on ALL DAY! Honestly I mean this color will not come off. Anelectric toothbrush and scrubbing is my regimen, nuff said ;) Enjoy!

Insta-dri polish- I wore this nail polish the other weekend and honestly I didn't wanna take it off! I fell in love with it the moment I put it on my fingers (and toes). Cobalt is my new favorite color! And it's the instant dry so that makes it 10xs better!!!

Adele Pandora station- Can I just say "Adele I love you". If you don't have her station on Pandora I must ask "Why not?" All the ladies that are on that station from Adele to Sara Bareilles to Amy Winehouse are ladies I love to listen to. This station always makes me in a good mood, I cant get enough

Forever21 cone heels- These shoes are my favorite. They are perfect for summer, plus they can be dressed up or down and paired with almost anything!

Dove Shampoo/Conditioner- I honestly could use this shampoo/conditioner for the rest of my life. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference from the saloon brand and the Dove brand. It always leaves my hair silky smooth and easy to manage. More importantly it really does help prevent split ends and damage I'm sure all ladies put on their hair everyday!

Not quite Ralph Lauren...

outfit:
shirt, jeans- Forever 21
tie-Dad's
vest- Target
shoes-Payless

First let me start by saying please forgive me for my out of control hair, the Texas humidity and my hair are total enemies. So this weeks Bloggers Do It Better was American Prep Menswear. To be totally honest I was a little afraid of this one, mainly because I have never really worn meanswear and I wasn't sure I could pull it off. To my surprise I actually really really liked this look! I'm still not sure if I can pull this off but I'm pretty positive I would wear this look out somewhere. The tie was my favorite, I raided my dad's closet and beyond the Christmas and 80's ties I found this gem!! I thought it worked well. Thanks Dad! And thanks Pretty Shiny Sparkly for this look, I love it!

Deep in the heart of TEXAS....

What a great week in San Antonio.........it's BEER WEEK! We're having pub crawls downtown and beer tastings galore! So in honor of beer week I decided to cook up a little somethin' special. I found this recipe and thought "wow I can imagine how amazing that would taste" It calls for amber beer so I used used ZiegenBock beer brewed in the in the heart of Texas.

This recipe is a Cajun Sausage Recipe made with onions, peppers and beer oh my. It's a cinch to make and perfumes your entire kitchen with the most amazing smell. I like to put the sausage in a bun but you can serve it however your taste buds tell ya to. This recipe was such a good choice on my part for beer week.....yep I'm patting myself on the back. It's sweet yet savory and the beer adds just enough flavor. Gotta love beer!
